ABOUT BILL MESSINGER
Bill Messinger is an expert on addiction and recovery issues for those who have not lost everything. His goal is improving recovery rates, particularly for those from well off or well-known families. Through extensive volunteer work, internship and education at the world-renowned Hazelden Treatment Center, Bill, along with others, developed program concepts and ideas that when implemented, increase the chances for long-term sobriety. These ideas and concepts are presented in a series of papers, including the most recent,
Clinical Needs of the Affluent and Prominent in Addiction Treatment
.
Bill often collaborates with Terry Hunt, BA, Ed.D., a therapist, author, and lecturer specializing in family systems and emotional trauma resulting from addiction. Bill and Terry co-authored an article critiquing the wealth advisory field in the hope of bringing awareness to the area of addiction prevention, Are Wealth Managers meeting the Core Needs of Our Families. In this article, Bill and Terry argue that child development issues are paramount and often overlooked by wealth advisors. In addition, individual family histories and dynamics drive family interactions. Therefore, using corporate consulting concepts and competency models are inappropriate for most prominent families and their related entities.
Bill graduated from Yale, then studied for his law degree at the University of Minnesota Law School. He received his Chemical Dependency Counselor Certificate from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies in 2002. Bill holds licenses as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Attorney from the State of Minnesota.
